TRS to support Yashwant Sinha in Presidential Polls 2022

27 June, Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has made the decision to support Yashwant Sinha, the joint candidate of the Opposition, in the 2022 presidential elections.

K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the TRS, made this announcement on Twitter on Monday. “President of @trspartyonline Sri KCR Garu has decided to extend support to the candidature of Sri @YashwantSinha Ji in the election for President of India Along with our Members of Parliament, I will be representing the TRS at the nomination today.”

In order to represent TRS during Sinha’s nomination file later in the day in New Delhi, Rama Rao and TRS MPs headed for the city.

The nomination submission will take place in the presence of Nama Nageshwar Rao, the leader of the TRS in the Lok Sabha, as well as MPs Ranjith Reddy, Suresh Reddy, B.B. Patil, and others.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar called the TRS leader and asked him to back Sinha’s candidacy. A few days later, the TRS leader made the choice.

Pawar’s plea was approved by KCR, as the TRS leader is commonly known, but the party didn’t make a public announcement until Monday.

Previously, the TRS had skipped the meeting that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had convened in the nation’s capital on June 15 to discuss the opposition’s campaign plan.

Mamata Banerjee’s invitation of the Congress party to the conference infuriated the TRS. The TRS underlined its stance in favour of keeping a similar barrier between the BJP and the Congress. The TRS leadership made it plain that it cannot take part in any activity in which the Congress is involved.

The TRS leaders had also questioned why a meeting needed to be called with a candidate already chosen. They believed that the opposition parties ought to have chosen a leader up front who was acceptable to all parties and then persuaded him or her subsequently.

They were referring to Sharad Pawar’s plea from Mamata Banerjee to run as the opposition. The NCP leader, however, turned down the offer because he wanted to continue participating in active politics.
