Modi provided self-respect to the disabled: Amit Shah

Hyderabad, Sept.17 (NSS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that the Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi had helped the disabled of the country to live with self-respect by providing requisite basic amenities and giving priority to them in the implementation of various welfare programs in the country. He made these remarks while addressing a gathering of the disabled at a city-based classic function hall held to distribute different types of disabled aid and equipment to the disabled people on the occasion of the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The program was held by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee foundation and BSSF. Shah distributed aid and equipment to the disabled on the occasion. He also greeted them affectionately and interacted with them. Speaking on the occasion, Shah said that the central government was taking up extensive programs for the welfare of the disabled and added that they were creating disabled-friendly basic amenities at all government offices and in all public transport systems and public places. He said that the efforts made by them had helped the disabled to receive respect from others instead of sympathy. Shah reminded that the PM had urged all to address the disabled as the divine (Divyang) instead of the disabled while noting that the several disabled people would have special skills. He said that they had made the Indian currency in such a manner that even the blind could find out the value of the currency by their mere touch and added that such an attempt was made by India for the first time in the entire world.

Shah said that the PM was working for the development of the poor and for improving the honor of India across the globe and added that several social welfare programs were being held across the country for the long life and good health of the PM on the occasion of his birthday. He praised the union minister for tourism and culture G. Kishan Reddy and his wife for holding such noble programs on behalf of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee foundation for implementing several social welfare activities and training programs for the welfare of the disabled and the women of the state.

Shah distributed electric tricycles to the physically handicapped and teaching and learning material for the mentally disabled persons, smartphones, blind sticks and manual cycles for the blind, and automatic toilet cleaning machines for the government schools and residential hostels. (NSS)
