Muslim Voters Will Now Decide Destiny of Political Parties in Telangana

Hyderabad, Nov 17: Keeping in view that the election bigul for the coming Assembly elections in the year 2023 has already commenced with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the gathering in his recent tour to Telangana and the TRS President and Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao holding the party executive meeting, but the role of Muslim voters in Telangana which constitute around 12.7 per cent of the electorate who are capable of deciding the destiny of political parties of ruling TRS-BJP-Congress in over 40 seats of the 119 Assembly constituencies in the state that goes to the poll next year.

Muslims are present in considerable numbers in almost all districts of Telangana, but are predominant in the erstwhile districts of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Medak, Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts. Over 17 lakh Muslims voters reside in Hyderabad alone which is over 43 per cent of the State’s Muslim population. The Greater Hyderabad city has 24 Assembly seats, of which the outcome in 10 seats has Muslim voters influence.

Most of the Muslims of Hyderabad are residing in the old city, which has been a fieldom of the Majlist-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) for two decades. The MIM has been consistently winning all the seven assembly seats in the old city.

The MIM was a strong opponent to the BJP this may go against in the growth the BJP in Telangana due to a polarisation of Hindu votes. However, with the TRS emerging strong after the formation of Telangana state, the MIM is playing the friendly political role with the ruling TRS.
