Jammu, June 7: An Army officer lost his life during an ongoing anti terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, where security forces have been conducting a large scale search operation for the past 15 days.
Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami died while performing operational duties in the Manjakote area, where joint security forces are carrying out Operation Sheruwali to track suspected terrorists.
According to officials, the officer reportedly slipped into a deep gorge in the rugged forest terrain during the operation. The area is marked by steep mountains, dense forests and challenging weather conditions.
Rescue teams immediately launched efforts to save the officer. However, Lieutenant Goswami succumbed to the injuries sustained in the fall.
The Nagrota headquartered White Knight Corps expressed grief over the officer’s death and paid tribute to his service. In a statement, the Corps said Lieutenant Goswami made the supreme sacrifice while carrying out operational duties and described his dedication and service as an inspiration to fellow soldiers.
The Army also extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, the anti terror operation in Rajouri district continues. Security forces have maintained an extensive cordon and search operation in the Manjakote region to locate terrorists believed to be hiding in the area.
Operation Sheruwali was launched about 15 days ago after terrorists reportedly opened fire on an Army patrol in the Dorimal Mughlan forest area of Rajouri district. Additional forces were deployed, and a large scale search operation remains underway.
