Hyderabad, July 16: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Thursday strongly condemned the alleged assignment of Islamic religious verses as homework to a Class 2 Hindu student at a private school in Hyderabad’s Saidabad. He demanded immediate action against the school management and accused it of hurting Hindu sentiments.
The controversy relates to Success School in Saidabad, where a teacher allegedly asked the student to recite the Kalma and Surah Fatiha and recorded the assignment in the student’s school diary. The incident has sparked protests by some Hindu organisations.
Bandi Sanjay seeks action against school management
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Bandi Sanjay alleged that forcing a student to recite religious verses was unacceptable. He questioned why, according to him, “so called secular organisations” had not reacted to the incident and urged the Hindu community to condemn it.
The Union Minister called on the Telangana government to initiate immediate action against the management of Success School. He warned that failure to act could encourage similar incidents elsewhere in the State.
Bandi Sanjay also referred to a separate case involving an auto driver identified as Bharat. He questioned the police action taken against the driver and asked why similar action was not initiated in other instances involving religious messages displayed on vehicles or walls.
He further expressed confidence that the BJP would come to power in Telangana in the future. He also stated that the party would work to promote Hindu culture and traditions, adding that a bottu (tilak) would be made mandatory for Hindu students if the BJP formed the government.
The Telangana government and the school management have not yet issued an official response to Bandi Sanjay’s remarks.
