Banswada communal incident | Hyderabad, Feb 23 (Maxim News): A delegation of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) met Telangana Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin at the Secretariat regarding the recent communal incident in Banswada, Kamareddy district.

During the meeting, the leaders expressed serious concern over the recent clashes between two religious groups in Banswada on February 20, 2026.

The incident led to minor vandalism and tension in the area. Following the violence, certain right-wing organisations called for a bandh on Saturday, which was observed amid heavy police deployment.

The representatives informed the Minister that eight Muslims were arrested in connection with the case.

AIMIM delegation requested a fair and impartial review and urged that innocent individuals should not be harassed. They also appealed for the release of those falsely implicated after proper legal examination.

Separately, AIMIM leaders submitted a formal representation to the Telangana Director General of Police on February 23, 2026 and met Mahesh Bhagwat, Additional DGP L & O Telangana Police. The letter raised concerns over the arrest of minority youth following the incident.

According to the representation, eight youths were arrested under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 191(1), 191(2), 191(3), 196(1)(a), and 109 read with 190. The FIR also reportedly includes the names of 17 others.

The AIMIM delegation stated that video evidence shows several of the arrested youths were not involved in any unlawful activity. They alleged that the arrests were based on false implication.

The letter further claimed that video footage shows certain anti-social elements physically assaulting some accused persons in the presence of police officials.

In the representation, the delegation made the following key demands:

Immediate release of the innocent minority youth who were allegedly falsely implicated.

A stay on any further arrests based on the same FIR.

Stringent action against those seen assaulting individuals in front of police, along with an inquiry into the alleged inaction of police personnel present at the scene.

Immediate sanction and disbursement of compensation to shop owners who suffered losses during the violence.

The leaders also raised the issue of alleged looting and damage to Muslim-owned shops and requested adequate compensation for affected traders.

The issue of the reported demolition of Masjid-e-Maulana was discussed during the meeting. Concern was expressed, and the Minister assured that the matter would be examined carefully and appropriate action would be taken as per law.

Reacting to the violence, Minister Mohammad Azharuddin called for a thorough and impartial investigation. He stressed that maintaining communal harmony and protecting the rights and property of all citizens is the government’s priority.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. The Minister directed officials to ensure all necessary arrangements are made smoothly so that the community does not face inconvenience.

The party expressed hope that authorities would ensure a fair and impartial investigation and provide justice and relief to the affected families.

The meeting was attended by Mohammad Mubeen (MLA – Bahadurpura), Mir Zulfeqar Ali (MLA – Charminar), Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (MLA – Malakpet), Kausar Mohiuddin (MLA – Karwan), Mirza Rahmat Baig (MLC), and Mirza Riyaz-ul-Hasan Effendi (MLC).
