Bay of Bengal Low Pressure | Hyderabad, Sept. 21: The Bay of Bengal low pressure area is likely to strengthen into a depression, triggering heavy rainfall across parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, weather officials have warned.
The system is currently centred over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. It is expected to move west-northwest and strengthen further before reaching the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near the South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coasts.
APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said the system could intensify into a depression on Monday and a severe depression on Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, it is expected to move closer to the South Odisha-North Andhra coast.
The system could bring widespread heavy rainfall to Andhra Pradesh from Tuesday. Heavy to very heavy rain is possible in some areas on Wednesday and Thursday.

In Andhra Pradesh, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Nandyal and Kadapa districts are likely to experience cloudy weather and scattered thunderstorms on Monday.
Other parts of the state may receive light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also likely, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain alert.
The IMD has issued heavy rain warnings for Coastal Andhra on September 21, with very heavy rainfall warnings for September 22 and stronger warnings for September 23 and 24.
Heavy rainfall predicted for Telangana
In Telangana, several districts could receive heavy rainfall on Monday due to the strengthening weather system. The areas include Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Karimnagar.
Parts of the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district may also receive rain.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several Telangana districts later in the week, particularly from September 23 to 26. Thunderstorms accompanied by squally winds of 50 to 60 kmph are also expected in some districts.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. The weather system is being closely monitored as it moves toward the Andhra-Odisha coast.
