Hyderabad, July 6: The Telangana government is preparing to privatize key operations at the Bhadradri Thermal Power Station in Manuguru, with tenders for its coal handling and ash handling plants expected to be invited soon.
According to reports, Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited officials have begun preparations by reviewing tender documents related to the privatization process undertaken for the Yadadri Thermal Power Station.
The Bhadradri Thermal Power Station was established to address Telangana’s power shortage following the formation of the State. The plant has four units with a total installed capacity of 1,080 MW, with each unit generating 270 MW.
Commercial operations began in phases, with the first two units commissioned in June and July 2020, the third in March 2021, and the fourth in January 2022.
According to available data, the plant recorded a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 67.53 percent in 2025 to 26, which increased to 73.52 percent in 2026 to 27.
Nearly 400 work contracts at the plant have already been outsourced to private companies. The proposed move aims to privatize the coal handling and ash handling operations as well.
The proposed privatization has drawn criticism from the Telangana Power Employees Joint Action Committee, which has urged the State government to withdraw the decision. Employee representatives have expressed concern over the increasing privatization of thermal power facilities in Telangana.
