Big Shock To Revanth Govt: High Court Issues Notices On GO III Violation
Hyderabad, May 2 (Maxim News): The Telangana High Court issues notices to the government over G.O 111 violations at Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.
It questioned how the state has failed to implement the Environment Protection Act. It ordered an explanation within 4 weeks.
Mandadi Madhava Reddy of Pedda Mangalaram village in Moinabad mandal filed a petition against illegal constructions around Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs. He alleged that the relevant departments were not taking action to stop unauthorized constructions in areas protected under G.O 111 of 1996.
A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Pal and Justice Renuka yara heard the PIL. It directed the state government and some private individuals to submit their responses within four weeks.
The bench issued notices to the Principal Secretary, Irrigation & CAD Department, Principal Secretaries, MAUD Department, State Pollution Control Board, HMWSSB, HMDA, GHMC and several other officials.
Notices have also been issued to private respondents The areas where illegal constructions have been undertaken fall within 10 km from the catchment areas of the twin reservoirs. These play a vital role in Hyderabad’s water supply and ecological balance, the court said.

Illegal constructions are taking place in the bio-conservation zone. Madhava Reddy argued in his petition that the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and the judicial judgments of the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court of India have been violated.
He expressed concern that the uncontrolled constructions are blocking the natural water channels, thereby disrupting the flow into Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. He said that this will not only lead to a decrease in water levels and deterioration in water quality, but will also worsen the water shortage in Hyderabad.
He explained that the flood being forcibly released from the reservoirs will lead to the submergence of towns in Hyderabad. Madhava Reddy urged the court to issue orders to the state government to implement G.O 111 and prohibit all construction activities in the protected villages listed as annexes to the G.O.
