BJP, TRS Ignoring Teaching Of Moulana Azad: Congress

Hyderabad, November 11 (Maxim News): The Congress party paid glowing tributes to Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, the legendary freedom icon and first Education Minister of independent India on his 132th birth anniversary on Wednesday.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Minorities Department celebrated the occasion as National Education Day at a grand scale across Telangana State and distributed books, stationary items, food, fruits and other essentials among the poor and needy people.

TPCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail participated in the programme in the books distribution programme at Wadia Salahin, Shahin Nagar in Rajendernagar Assembly constituency. Rangareddy DCC President Challa Narsimha Reddy, RR Dist Minorities Dept Chairman Mohammed Riyaz, Mohd Akbar and other leaders participated in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Sohail recalled the services of Moulana Azad in the struggle for country’s freedom and later in the nation building as the first education minister of independent India. He said it was Moulana Azad’s vision which turned India into a knowledge hub. He said that Moulana Azad stressed on giving free primary education to all. He was also pioneer for establishing the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the foundation of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

He said that the Congress party always followed the ideals of Moulana Azad and implemented education policies that benefit the poor and downtrodden. Citing an example, he said that the previous Congress Government in undivided Andhra Pradesh introduced Fee Reimbursement scheme which directly helped crores of poor students in getting free education. Similarly, he said scholarships were given to students without any discrimination or delays so as to encourage them in continuing education without having any worries about financial implications.

Abdullah Sohail said that the previous Congress Government implemented 4% reservation for Muslims in jobs and education and it was inspired from the thoughts of Moulana Azad. He said Moulana Azad wanted the minorities to pursue higher education by overcoming all hurdles. He said that the previous Congress Govt provided access to lakhs of poor Muslims to higher education by giving them 4% quote in educational institutions. However, he alleged that the present BJP and TRS Governments were neglecting the principles of Moulana Azad and giving least priority to education sector. He said both the BJP Govt at the Centre and TRS Govt in Telangana has been reducing spending on education sector ever since they came to power.

The Congress leader appealed to the students to study, understand and follow the principles and ideals of Moulana Azad if they want to succeed in their lives and careers. (Maxim News)
