Delhi/Hyderabad, July 12 (Maxim News): The Central government has issued fresh guidelines on the order in which the National Song, National Anthem and State Anthems should be performed at official government functions across the country.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all states, Union Territories and Central government departments to follow a uniform sequence during official events.
Vande Mataram to Be Sung Before Jana Gana Mana
According to the guidelines, Vande Mataram, India’s National Song, should be sung first, followed by Jana Gana Mana, the National Anthem, and then the respective State Anthem, wherever applicable.
The Centre has advised all government departments and state authorities to strictly adhere to this order during official functions.
The fresh guidelines come amid recent political controversy over the sequence in which the Tamil Nadu State Anthem was played during the swearing-in ceremony of the state’s new government.
The Ministry has also instructed that participants should stand respectfully while Vande Mataram is being sung. The full rendition of the song is approximately 3 minutes and 10 seconds long.
The Centre said the guidelines are intended to bring uniformity to official ceremonies across the country while ensuring due respect to the National Song, National Anthem and State Anthems.
