Hyderabad, May 11: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the State police to constitute a special investigation team to probe the POCSO case registered against Bandi Sai Bhageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
The move comes amid mounting criticism from opposition parties and activists over the alleged delay in action after the case was registered at Pet Basheerabad Police Station on May 8.
According to an official communication from the Chief Minister’s Office, Revanth Reddy sought an explanation from Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand regarding the delay in initiating the investigation. The Chief Minister reportedly questioned why no substantial action had been taken despite the registration of an FIR in the case.
Telangana government orders special probe in POCSO case
During the discussion, the DGP informed the Chief Minister that a large section of the police force had been engaged in security arrangements related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad on Sunday.
Meanwhile, former IPS officer and BRS leader R. S. Praveen Kumar also reacted to the issue. He urged the State police to appoint senior IPS officers who were not involved in the Prime Minister’s security duties to ensure an impartial and speedy investigation into the case.
Notably, Monday’s statement from the CMO marks the first official confirmation from the State government regarding the POCSO case. Until now, neither officials from the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate nor the DGP had publicly commented on the matter.
However, details related to a counter complaint allegedly filed by Bandi Sai Bhageerath at a Karimnagar police station had surfaced in sections of the media earlier, triggering political debate across Telangana.
The development has intensified political reactions in the State, with opposition parties demanding transparency and swift legal action in the case.
