Couple On Way To New Year Celebrations Dies After Being Run Over By RTC Bus

Hyderabad, Jan 1 (Maxim News): A tragic road accident claimed the lives of a couple who were heading to New Year celebrations in Hyderabad on Thursday night (January 1, 2026). The incident occurred at Moosarambagh, when a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus ran over them, resulting in their death on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Tirupathi Rao (50) and Venkatamma (45), natives of Suryapet district. The couple had come to Hyderabad to visit their daughter, who resides in Kothapet, Dilsukhnagar.

According to the police, the couple was travelling on a two-wheeler towards Tank Bund at around 9 pm to take part in New Year celebrations. During the journey, Tirupathi Rao allegedly applied sudden brakes, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, both riders fell onto the road.

Tragically, they came under the rear wheels of an RTC bus belonging to the Dilsukhnagar depot, which was moving behind their vehicle. Both victims suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot, said Malakpet ACP K. Subba Rami Reddy.

Police clarify bus driver not at fault

The ACP clarified that the bus driver was not responsible for the accident and that it occurred due to the negligence of the two-wheeler rider. He added that the couple’s daughter and son-in-law were travelling ahead of them on another two-wheeler and witnessed the incident.

Based on a complaint lodged by the bus driver, the Malakpet police registered a case and initiated further investigation into the matter.
