Hyderabad, Aug.19 (Maxim News): CPI, National General Secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy today demanded that the Centre declare as national disaster Kerala floods. In a statement issued here on Sunday, Sudhakar Reddy expressed serious concern at the devastation caused by continuous heavy rains and floods in Kerala. About 385 people died, about two lakh people in relief camps and an estimated damage of 20,000 cr including property loss, damage of roads, etc., he said. Sudhakar Reddy appealed to members of all political parties should collect and contribute to Kerala relief.
As this is an unprecedented devastation, the central government should declare it as a national disaster and take up the responsibility of relief and revival of Kerala’s economy the CPI leader said. Many more people in remote areas are in need of relief and help. Central aid of 500 cr plus 100 cr is too little compared to destruction in Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should raise above political considerations and announce needy help to Kerala besides taking UNO and international help he averred. The CPI appreciates the people of Kerala for bravely fighting against the nature’s fury. State government, Army, Navy and National Disaster Relief teams are doing good job. People from all over the country should help the Kerala at this hour of need. He also expressed concern at the floods and damage in parts of Karnataka and urges upon the union government to rush help to Karnataka also. (Maxim News)
