Donald Trump’s Name For US Consulate In Hyderabad: BJP Criticism

  • Revanth Reddy government approves Donald Trump Avenue proposal
  • Bandi Sanjay questions Telangana decision and seeks historic names

The plan to name a key road in Hyderabad as Donald Trump Avenue has set off a political debate in Telangana. The decision, taken by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has become a major topic of discussion across the state. Government sources said that the road leading to the US Consulate General office in Hyderabad will carry the name of the US President. They also said that the government sees this move as part of its wider strategy to make Telangana a destination for investments.

Officials from the Chief Minister’s Office said that they will write to the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy about the proposal. They said the letter will explain the plan to name the road in Hyderabad after Donald Trump. They also confirmed that several important roads in the city will soon carry the names of leading personalities and major global companies.

Meanwhile, the Greenfield Radial Road that connects the Nehru Outer Ring Road and the proposed Regional Ring Road at Raviryal will be named after Padma Bhushan Ratan Tata. Another major stretch near the new Google campus in the Financial District will be called “Google Street.” The Chief Minister earlier said that the government wants to name important roads in Hyderabad after world class corporations. He took these decisions in line with that announcement.

However, the proposal for Donald Trump Avenue drew sharp criticism from BJP leader and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay. He said the state government should first change the name of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar. He also said that if the Congress government wants to rename public places, it should choose names linked to history and heritage. According to him, it is not right to select names only because they are trending. His remarks added a strong political edge to the debate and brought the focus back to earlier demands raised by BJP leaders.

The state government, however, has not issued any further comment on the criticism. Officials only said that the proposal is part of a larger branding strategy for Telangana and is still in the process of being formally communicated to the Union government and the US Embassy.
