Hyderabad: Egg prices in Telangana have risen sharply, adding pressure on household budgets. The steady increase over the past week has hit common consumers hard.
Currently, retail egg prices have reached ₹7 per piece. Wholesale rates stand at around ₹6.30 per egg. Just two weeks ago, prices hovered near ₹4, which shows a sharp rise within a short span.
As a result, daily food expenses have increased for many families. Moreover, the spike comes at a time when prices of essential commodities already strain household finances.
Egg Prices Rise Again After Brief Dip
Earlier, egg prices had dropped in March due to export disruptions linked to global tensions. However, that decline lasted only for a short period.
Now, poultry farmers report that rising temperatures have affected production. Heat conditions have led to poultry deaths, which in turn reduced egg output.
Consequently, lower supply has pushed prices upward in recent days. Industry sources expect prices to remain high if temperatures continue to rise.
Meanwhile, chicken prices show a different trend. Last month, chicken rates touched nearly ₹400 per kg, marking a sharp spike.
However, prices have since fallen significantly. In Hyderabad, live bird farm rates now stand at ₹110 per kg. Retail live bird prices hover around ₹137 per kg.
Dressed chicken costs about ₹199 per kg, while skinless chicken reaches up to ₹226 per kg.
Therefore, while egg prices continue to climb, chicken rates offer some relief to consumers. Even so, rising food costs overall remain a concern for households across the state.
