Farmers Must Be Prepared For Possible Rainfall Deficit: Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad, June 1: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday directed officials to create awareness among farmers about the possibility of rainfall shortages during the upcoming monsoon season and encourage the adoption of water-efficient agricultural practices.

The Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat to assess the State’s preparedness for the southwest monsoon. Officials from the Meteorological Department made a presentation on expected rainfall patterns, the possible impact of El Niño conditions, and other weather-related factors.

Awareness on Water-Efficient Farming

During the meeting, Revanth Reddy stressed the need to educate farmers about drought-like conditions and the importance of cultivating crops that require less water.

He instructed officials to promote crop diversification and crop rotation practices to help farmers manage water resources more effectively and reduce risks associated with inadequate rainfall.

Focus on Project Maintenance

The Chief Minister also reviewed the maintenance status of irrigation projects across Telangana and directed officials to complete repair and maintenance works on a priority basis.

He ordered the immediate release of funds required for maintenance activities, including repairs to project gates and other critical infrastructure, to ensure readiness before the peak monsoon season.

Disaster Preparedness Measures

Revanth Reddy instructed departments to make effective use of the funds available with the Disaster Management Department and ensure timely responses during emergencies.

He directed officials to immediately release funds for the repair of damaged roads, collapsed bridges, and other infrastructure affected by adverse weather conditions.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the need for prompt action in cases involving loss of life, property damage, or livestock losses caused by natural disasters.

Multiple Departments Participate

Senior officials from various departments, including Agriculture, Irrigation, Urban Development, Panchayat Raj, Health, Home, Disaster Management, Fire Services, and HYDRAA, attended the review meeting.

The government aims to strengthen preparedness measures ahead of the monsoon season to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of citizens while supporting the agricultural sector.
