Hyderabad, May 17: A major fire broke out in an AC coach of the Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi Rajdhani Express near Rajasthan’s Kota early Sunday morning. All passengers were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported, railway officials confirmed.
The incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. near Vikramgarh Alot railway station in Kota division. Officials said the blaze started in the B 1 air conditioned coach, which was carrying 68 passengers at the time of the incident.
Railway Protection Force personnel, onboard staff and railway officials immediately launched evacuation operations. Passengers were shifted out of the affected coach within nearly 15 minutes. Nearby coaches were also evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Rajdhani Express Fire Triggers Emergency Response
Relief and rescue teams from the Kota Railway Division rushed to the spot soon after the fire was reported. Railway authorities detached the affected coach from the train to prevent the flames from spreading further.
Officials also switched off the overhead electric supply to ensure safety during rescue operations.
Divisional Railway Manager of Kota division confirmed that all passengers were safe and no casualties were reported in the incident.
Railway authorities arranged alternative accommodation for passengers in other coaches so they could continue their journey towards Kota and New Delhi.
Officials said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. A detailed investigation has been launched to identify the reason behind the blaze.
The Railways also released emergency contact numbers for passengers and their families. Kota enquiry numbers include 6375898943 and 09256099269.
The 12431 Rajdhani Express had departed from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on Friday and was scheduled to reach Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station in New Delhi on Sunday afternoon.
The incident comes just days after a fire broke out in two AC coaches of the Hyderabad Jaipur Special Express at Nampally Railway Station on May 15. Railway authorities had controlled that fire without any casualties.
