- Gandhi Hospital spleen surgery removes 2.8 kg organ
- Rare splenectomy treats splenomegaly and pancytopenia
Hyderabad, March 31: Gandhi Hospital doctors performed a rare Gandhi Hospital spleen surgery and successfully removed an enlarged spleen weighing 2.8 kilograms and measuring 45 cm in length from a 43-year-old woman. The patient is a resident of Warasiguda and is now reported to be stable.
The woman had been suffering from massive splenomegaly and pancytopenia. These conditions caused a severe drop in red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. As a result, her condition became critical and required urgent medical attention. She approached the hospital after experiencing abdominal pain for three months and swelling for one month.
During examination, doctors found that her spleen had enlarged significantly and extended below the navel. Further tests confirmed pancytopenia. This condition made the case highly risky. Therefore, any surgical intervention required careful planning and precision.
A medical team led by Dr Sunil and anesthesiologist Dr Murali carried out the complex splenectomy. The procedure involved the surgical removal of the spleen. Despite the risks, the team completed the surgery successfully.
Meanwhile, hospital authorities stated that the patient’s health is improving steadily. She is currently stable and recovering well under medical supervision. Doctors highlighted that such cases are extremely challenging. However, they stressed that timely surgical intervention is crucial for survival in such conditions.
The case also underlines the seriousness of splenomegaly and pancytopenia when left untreated. Early diagnosis and treatment play a key role in managing such health issues. Meanwhile, the successful outcome reflects the expertise of the surgical team at the hospital.
Further monitoring of the patient will continue as part of the recovery process. Doctors remain optimistic about her progress following the rare and complex procedure.
