Hyderabad, Oct 4 (Maxim News): Speculation is mounting in the Telangana Congress over the filling of three Governor quota MLC seats. Aspirants are reportedly meeting party leaders, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and PCC leaders to push their claims.
The party is likely to give priority to social equations this time, sources said. Allocating two of the three seats to Backward Classes (BCs) is reportedly under discussion. Names from the Padmashali and Mudiraj communities are being heard prominently.
Aspirants have stepped up their efforts even before a notification is out. Party circles say lobbying has begun among senior leaders and at the Delhi level. Several leaders have reportedly sought an appointment with Revanth Reddy and are meeting the PCC president. There is talk that the notification for the three vacant seats could be issued within two days. This has not been officially confirmed.
Party sources said caste equations could play a key role. The Graduates’ MLC seats were recently allotted to the Reddy community. The leadership is therefore reportedly thinking of giving BC communities representation in the Governor quota. It is also said to be looking for leaders who can be politically useful to the party.
Padmashali and Mudiraj names in Governor quota MLC race
The Padmashali community is in focus because of an earlier promise. At a public meeting in Sircilla, Revanth Reddy had announced that a Padmashali leader would be sent to the Legislative Council. Congress circles are now discussing whether one Governor quota seat will go to the community. Former MLA Eerravelli Anil and Punna Kailash are the names heard most in this category.
The leadership is reportedly considering another seat for the Mudiraj community, which has a sizeable population in the state. Neelam Madhu, who contested the Medak Lok Sabha seat, is the leading name. He has reportedly met the PCC president and senior AICC leaders to seek the MLC post. He is also said to have received an assurance from the chief minister after the Lok Sabha elections. Whether this works out remains to be seen.
Names under consideration in the wider BC category include Chanagani Dayakar, Sattu Mallesh and Kaushik Yadav. If the third seat goes to the Reddy community, RTI Commissioner Ayodhya Reddy could enter the race, according to party discussions.
The final selection is likely to rest on community representation, party loyalty and political equations. More clarity on the list of aspirants may emerge once the notification is issued. (Maxim News)
