Harish Rao Challenges Congress | Hyderabad, July 3 (Maxim News): Former minister and senior BRS leader Harish Rao has stated that the total debt incurred during the BRS government’s 10-year tenure stood at Rs 4.17 lakh crore, while accusing the Congress government of spreading misinformation over the state’s finances.
In an open letter addressed to Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Harish Rao urged Congress leaders to stop what he described as a false campaign regarding the borrowings of the previous BRS government. He said he has consistently maintained the same figures and had also presented them on the floor of the Assembly.
Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government has borrowed Rs 4.5 lakh crore within just two and a half years of coming to power. He challenged the government to hold a public debate on the issue, saying he is prepared to discuss the debt figures at any venue.
Harish Rao challenges Congress over Telangana debt figures
Harish Rao said he stands by the figures he has presented and expressed disappointment that Congress leaders continue to repeat what he called misleading claims despite several clarifications.
He also recalled that during an earlier Assembly session, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had acknowledged that the Congress government had borrowed Rs 3.47 lakh crore up to that point. Harish Rao accused Minister Jupally Krishna Rao of changing his stance repeatedly and said his statements have become inconsistent.
Meanwhile, Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar reached the Somajiguda Press Club to participate in the proposed discussion on the state’s debt. Jupally reiterated that he would honour his challenge and declared that he would resign from his ministerial post if his claims were proven wrong.
The minister also called on BRS working president K. Tarak Rama Rao and Harish Rao to attend the debate at the Press Club. However, it remains unclear whether the two BRS leaders will participate, keeping political suspense over the proposed face-off alive. (Maxim News)
