High Court Directs Govt To Decide On The Regulation Of Diploma Fees

Hyderabad, June 16 (Maxim News): The High Court of Telangana has directed the State government to take a decision on the regulation of fees related to diploma courses in Telangana.

In February last, year, the Technical Education Department sent proposals to bring diploma courses under AFRC, but the government has not taken any decision on this.  In this context, five private polytechnic colleges have filed a petition in the High Court to increase the fees as the counseling has started.

The High Court expressed its anger that the Education Secretary did not respond despite being ordered to give an explanation.  The bench directed the State Education Secretary Vakati Karuna to come directly and give an explanation.

The Government counsel told the court that the Education Department would take a decision on the matter within a week.  The Education Secretary asked the court to grant an exemption to personal attendance.  In response to this, the tribunal commented that there is no possibility of the Education Secretary taking any decision.  it said that the increase in fees as requested by polytechnic colleges is not allowed.

the High Court has issued an interim order allowing 5 polytechnic colleges to increase the fee of diploma courses to Rs. 40 thousand. It directed the Education Department to take a decision as soon as possible on the proposals to be brought under the ambit of AFRC.  the High Court has made it a condition for the colleges to return the extra money paid to the students if the government lowers the fees.  The next hearing on this has been postponed to June 26.  (Maxim News)
