Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 | Hyderabad, May 7: Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 approval moved forward as Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to clear the expansion proposal at the earliest.
Revanth Reddy met Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Delhi on Wednesday evening. During the meeting, he submitted a representation seeking speedy approval for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that the Detailed Project Report for Phase 2 had already been submitted to the Centre. Moreover, he requested the ministry to examine the proposal and grant approvals quickly.
Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 approval gains focus
Revanth Reddy said Hyderabad is expanding rapidly and requires better public transport infrastructure. Therefore, the Metro network must expand to meet future passenger demand.
The proposed second phase includes seven corridors covering 129 kilometres. Officials estimated the project cost at Rs 38,595 crore. In addition, the state government requested the Centre to participate jointly in the project implementation.
The Chief Minister also explained the state’s decision to take over the first phase project from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited. According to him, the move would help streamline the execution of Phase 2 and Phase 3 projects.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy also highlighted the need for Metro Phase 3. The proposed corridor will connect Rajiv Gandhi International Airport with Bharat Future City. He informed the Union Minister that the DPR for Phase 3 had already been submitted.
Senior officials from the Centre and Telangana government attended the meeting. They discussed future urban transport requirements and coordination for Metro expansion projects.
