Hyderabad, Aug 5 (Maxim News): Narayanguda Police of the Khairatabad Zone arrested a notorious mobile phone snatching gang and recovered 17 mobile phones along with a Honda Activa used in the offences.
Police arrested three persons, including two habitual snatchers and one receiver of stolen property, following a swift investigation using CCTV footage and technical evidence.
According to police, the accused committed a series of mobile phone snatching offences near Narayanguda Metro Station and Reddy Women’s College within two days.
Investigators found that the gang had targeted pedestrians carrying mobile phones in crowded public places before escaping on a two wheeler.
The arrested accused are Mohammad Zafer (21), an employee at a cigarette company, Mohammed Ather (22), a travel ticket booking worker, and Lalatendu Behera alias Nilu Behera (23), who allegedly purchased and concealed the stolen mobile phones.
Police recovered five stolen mobile phones, 12 unclaimed mobile phones from the receiver, and a blue Honda Activa without a registration number that was allegedly used to commit the crimes.
During the investigation, police found that the gang had carried out multiple snatching offences over the past ten days across several police station limits before selling the stolen devices to the receiver for quick profits.
The case came to light after Somishetti Karthik lodged a complaint on July 31, 2026, stating that two unidentified persons snatched his mobile phone near Reddy Women’s College while he was walking on the road.
Narayanguda Police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
Working under the guidance of ACP Sultan Bazar M. Mattaiah, the investigation team led by SHO M. Saideshwar, Detective Inspector B. Abhilash, Detective Sub Inspector CH. Nagaraju, and the crime staff analysed CCTV footage, technical evidence, and local intelligence.
The team tracked down the accused and arrested them near Satva Mall in Musheerabad on the evening of August 4, 2026.
Police also linked the accused to multiple cases registered at Narayanguda, Chikkadpally, Afzalgunj, and Gopalapuram police stations under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Khairatabad Zone, appreciated the efforts of the Narayanguda Police team for solving the cases quickly and rewarded the officers for their successful investigation.
Police advised citizens to remain alert while using mobile phones in public places, especially on busy roads and near transport hubs.
They urged people to avoid using phones while walking close to roads and to report suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station or by calling the emergency helpline. (Maxim News)
