Hyderabad: The pre Special Intensive Revision (SIR) mapping of electoral rolls has gained momentum across Hyderabad district. Election authorities accelerated the process after establishing hundreds of help desks in all 15 Assembly constituencies.
Officials said the mapping percentage increased from 28 percent to nearly 37 percent within two weeks. The process involves linking every elector with the 2002 Special Intensive Revision records using either their own voter registration details or those of their parents or grandparents.
Authorities are closely monitoring the exercise and fixing daily targets for Booth Level Officers, supervisors, and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. More than 300 help desks have been set up across the city. At least 20 help desks are functioning in each Assembly constituency to help voters trace their polling station and constituency details from the 2002 records.
Officials said the initiative significantly improved the pace of mapping. During the initial phase in March, only 1,000 to 1,200 voters were mapped daily. The number has now increased to at least 10,000 voters per day.
Hyderabad Electoral Mapping Gains Momentum
Election officials said the pace picked up sharply over the last 10 days. On Wednesday alone, authorities mapped nearly 32,000 voters, setting a new record for the exercise.
The importance of the mapping process came into focus after the recently concluded Assembly elections in West Bengal. Several leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, alleged that deletion of voters during the Special Intensive Revision affected electoral outcomes.
However, officials in Hyderabad clarified that the exercise is a routine process aimed at cleaning and updating electoral rolls. They said voters need not panic even if their records are not immediately mapped.
R.V. Karnan, who also serves as Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, said Booth Level Officers would visit households during the SIR process. He explained that residents whose details are not mapped initially would still be added after verification.

Political Parties Active In Process
Political parties have also become active in the process. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has already established its own help desks in the Old City to support voters. Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders, including Talasani Srinivas Yadav, T. Padma Rao Goud, and Muta Gopal, reviewed the mapping exercise and offered support through party booth level agents.
Official figures show that out of 46,79,518 electors in Hyderabad district, authorities have successfully mapped 17,17,224 voters so far, achieving 36.7 percent coverage. Around 29,62,294 voters are yet to be mapped.
Among constituencies, Bahadurpura recorded the highest progress with 47 percent mapping. Karwan followed closely with 45 percent. Charminar completed 42.5 percent mapping, while Yakutpura approached the 40 percent mark. Secunderabad Cantonment reported the lowest progress with mapping remaining below 30 percent.
