Hyderabad: Student’s Union Protest Over Quarantine Charges In UoH

The students’ union of University of Hyderabad on Thursday staged a protest on the varsity’s quarantine charges on students. The union appealed to the varsity’s vice-chancellor to drop the charges and arrange the quarantine facilities either in hostels or at guest houses for free.

Abhishek Nandan, president of students’ union said the varsity authorities were charging Rs 500 per day in the quarantine centre. In a letter to the vice chancellor, the union said that in the current conditions it is not possible for students to pay the quarantine charges and also emphasized that the students in quarantine were not even provided food and other facilities.

The union intended to raise the demands ahead of the Academic council meeting scheduled on December 22. They also met the HoDs of all departments in both school of humanities and school of social sciences and submitted their demands to be discussed in the meeting.

Besides quarantine charges, the other demands include resolving online classes issues, implementation of COVID-19 protocol, better healthcare facilities, phase-wise reopening of campus for all disciplines, relaxation of tuition fee, lab fee and development fee.
