The operation was launched at Kotha Cheruvu in Kokapet village of Gandipet mandal in Rangareddy district after large scale complaints from local residents demanding protection of the lake from encroachments.

Officials said Kotha Cheruvu has a Full Tank Level (FTL) area of 72 acres. During joint field inspections conducted with officials from various departments, HYDRA identified encroachments over nearly 22 acres within the lake boundaries.

According to officials, around 1.20 acres within the FTL limits had been encroached upon for development activities linked to Gold Fish Villas. Play areas and parks were allegedly constructed inside the protected lake zone.

Authorities also found that several construction firms occupied nearly 20 more acres by erecting fencing and temporary sheet boundary walls inside the lake area.

After verifying the violations, HYDRA teams entered the field on Tuesday and removed all illegal structures within the FTL limits. Officials demolished fencing, temporary barricades and sheet structures raised around the encroached portions.

Officials said fresh fencing work is now being taken up after identifying and marking the original lake boundaries to prevent future encroachments.
