Hyderabad, August 24 (Maxim News): The Institute of Company Secretaries of India inaugurated its new Hyderabad Chapter building at Anandnagar Colony, Khairatabad, on August 23, 2026.
The new facility strengthens the Institute of Company Secretaries of India’s professional and educational presence in Telangana. The five storey building covers about 10,200 square feet. It includes four floors and a stilt floor.
The institute developed the facility with an investment of about ₹10 crore. It will support professional education, training, examinations, meetings and capacity building programmes. It will also support stakeholder engagement and other activities of the Hyderabad Chapter.
ICSI National President CS Pawan G Chandak addressed a press conference after the inauguration. He said the new facility would help the Hyderabad Chapter serve its growing community of professionals and students.
The Hyderabad Chapter has about 2,300 members and 3,000 students. Across India, ICSI has around 80,600 members and 2.5 lakh students. The institute currently operates 77 chapters across the country.
The institute has 15 chapters in South India. Of these, 13 chapters have their own land and buildings. Chandak said this reflects ICSI’s continued focus on permanent professional infrastructure.
ICSI expands corporate governance and professional education focus
Chandak described Company Secretaries as Corporate Governance Professionals. He said India has a major share of the global corporate governance professional community.
According to him, around 1.3 lakh Corporate Governance Professionals work worldwide. India alone has about 80,600 Company Secretaries. He said this gives India a leading position in the field.
He also pointed to the growing demand for governance and compliance professionals. Increasing regulation and formalisation are creating new opportunities for Company Secretaries.
Chandak highlighted the potential of India’s MSME sector. He said only about 7% of Indian MSMEs have gone public or are listed. If the figure reaches 35%, India could need more than one lakh Company Secretaries.
He said the profession offers employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for young professionals. The changing corporate and regulatory environment is also widening the scope of professional practice.
ICSI is expanding its programmes beyond traditional company secretarial education. Its focus now includes corporate governance, sustainability, capital markets, dispute resolution, MSMEs, social auditing and international business.
The institute offers IFSC focused courses on fund management and capital market intermediaries. It also conducts its Capacity Building Series for members and students.
Another initiative, the ICSI Certificate Course on Professional Reboot, supports women Company Secretaries returning after career breaks.
The institute has also introduced specialised programmes in maritime regulations, securities market compliance, UAE business management and online dispute resolution. These programmes cover areas such as digital arbitration and mediation.
Focus on ESG, climate governance and responsible business
ICSI has introduced several initiatives on responsible corporate governance. These include the ICSI Guiding Principles on Stewardship and the ICSI Principles on Climate Change Governance.
The institute has also developed a Stakeholder Engagement Toolkit on ESG. It has further issued a Governance and Compliance Standard on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace.
The standard covers Internal Committee procedures, complaint handling, inquiries, training and gender neutral workplace policies.
ICSI also operates initiatives such as the ICSI International ADR Centre and the ICSI Start up and MSME Catalyst. Its other initiatives include the ICSI Institute of Social Auditors, ICSI Social Audit Standards and the Registered Valuer’s Toolkit.
The institute will hold its 54th National Convention of Company Secretaries in Bhubaneswar from September 5 to 7, 2026. The theme is “NextGen CS – Catalyst of Growth & Guardian of Governance.”
It will also conduct the ICSI Global Governance Conference in Mumbai on January 8 and 9, 2027. The event will bring together regulators, government officials, corporate leaders, professionals and academicians.
The 26th ICSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance will also take place on January 8, 2027.
ICSI has overseas centres in Australia, Canada, Singapore, the UAE, the UK and the USA. It is also considering an European Union Centre in the Netherlands.
The India Australia Facilitation Centre aims to support bilateral trade and investment. An MoU with the Services Export Promotion Council will support training, research, global market access and international collaboration.
Under its Academic Connect initiative, ICSI works with institutions including IIMs, IIT Madras and National Law Universities. The programme aims to strengthen professional and academic skills.
The institute also promotes commerce education through the International Commerce Olympiad and ICSI Commerce Olympiad.
Meanwhile, ICSI has introduced several measures to improve access to professional education. Fee waivers cover members of the armed forces, Agniveers, families of martyrs and eligible wards of armed and paramilitary personnel.
Fee concessions also cover eligible students from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, SC and ST communities and Persons with Disabilities. The institute also supports students through education loan assistance.
Through its outreach with NABARD, ICSI is creating awareness among NGOs about registration and listing on the Social Stock Exchange.
Its SEBI SME Awareness Drive helps business owners understand the IPO process. The Corporate Mitra Scheme, launched with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, aims to create trained paraprofessionals for MSME support.
ICSI has also become the first professional body to register and onboard as a Professional Institution under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme.
Through the scheme, registered Company Secretary firms can offer internship opportunities to young people.
The new Hyderabad Chapter building therefore adds to ICSI’s wider infrastructure and professional development efforts. It is expected to support students, members and stakeholders across Telangana while strengthening the institute’s corporate governance mission. (Maxim News)
