Hyderabad, Sept. 11: India has crossed 80 lakh human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.
The milestone strengthens the country’s preventive healthcare efforts against HPV infection and related cancers.
The nationwide HPV vaccination campaign began on February 28 for girls aged 14 years.
The HPV vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting women.
HPV Vaccination Campaign Expands Across India
The single dose Gardasil 4 vaccine is provided free at government health facilities.
These include Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, primary health centres and community health centres.
The vaccine is also available at sub district and district hospitals and government medical colleges.
Medical officers supervise vaccinations at designated centres. Sites are linked to 24×7 centres for managing adverse events following immunisation.
Parental consent is mandatory for vaccination. Eligible beneficiaries can register through the U WIN platform.
Vaccination remains voluntary, while trained medical officers handle any adverse events.
Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha and Mizoram are among the leading states in the campaign.
Health authorities are coordinating with schools, local bodies and healthcare workers to improve access.
The Health Ministry has urged parents and guardians to support eligible girls in getting vaccinated.
Operational guidelines for the campaign have also been shared with all states and Union Territories.
