Gaza, June 5: At least 10 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza on Thursday, according to local hospital authorities, amid continuing violence despite an existing ceasefire arrangement.
Officials at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City said nine people were killed in at least four separate overnight strikes. The victims included two women and two children.
Israeli Strikes in Gaza Continue Amid Fragile Ceasefire
Another airstrike in Gaza City on Thursday evening killed one person and injured another, according to the Red Crescent-operated Saraya Field Hospital.
Hospital authorities received the casualties following the attacks, while local residents reported damage to residential buildings in some of the affected areas.
The Israeli military said the overnight strikes targeted four Hamas militants in northern Gaza. According to the military, the individuals were senior members of a unit responsible for protecting Hamas leaders and providing intelligence assessments.
Israeli authorities stated that precautionary measures, including aerial surveillance and precision-guided munitions, were used to reduce the risk of civilian casualties.
The military did not immediately comment on the evening strike.
The latest attacks come amid ongoing tensions despite a ceasefire that was intended to halt more than two years of conflict between Israel and Hamas. While large-scale fighting has decreased, sporadic airstrikes and military operations continue across the Gaza Strip.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, 936 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect. The ministry does not distinguish between civilian and militant casualties in its reports.
Israel has maintained that its military actions are aimed at responding to security threats and alleged ceasefire violations. Israeli authorities also report that four Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the truce began.
The conflict escalated following the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, which Israeli authorities say killed around 1,200 people and resulted in the abduction of 251 hostages.
Efforts by international mediators to maintain the ceasefire and prevent further escalation remain ongoing.
