He said continuing tensions, threats to maritime traffic and disruptions to energy infrastructure have created serious global concerns.

The External Affairs Minister stressed that safe and uninterrupted maritime movement through international waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, remains crucial for global economic stability.

Jaishankar also reiterated India’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter and emphasised that sovereignty and territorial integrity must remain the foundation of international relations.

He said dialogue and diplomacy are the only sustainable solutions for resolving international conflicts.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi accused the United States and Israel of violating international law and promoting instability in the region.

Speaking at the BRICS meeting, he alleged that Iran had been subjected to unlawful aggression and criticised what he described as expansionism and warmongering.

Araghchi arrived in India on Wednesday for a three day official visit, marking Tehran’s first major diplomatic outreach since tensions escalated in West Asia.

The ongoing conflict has also affected global energy markets, with oil and gas prices witnessing sharp increases after Iran reportedly restricted movement through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes.

Nearly 20 percent of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass through the strategic corridor connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
