Internet Dest/Hyderabad, Sept 9 (Maxim News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a bilateral meeting in New Delhi on the 11th of this month. The meeting, which will be held in the context of the BRICS summit, is likely to discuss defense, trade, energy, nuclear energy and technical cooperation. It is reported that India will hold key discussions on the purchase of S-400, SU-57 and Brahmos in the defense sector (Modi Putin Meeting).
The S-400 air defense system is a key element of India-Russia defense cooperation. India has previously signed a deal with Russia for five S-400 systems. Three of them have already been delivered from Russia. The remaining two are due to be received by the end of this year. Modi-Putin are also likely to discuss them and future defense requirements (India Russia Defense Deal).
The most interesting topic of the Modi-Putin meeting was Russia’s Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter jet. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed that the sale of Su-57 aircraft to India was on the agenda of the talks. However, India is interested not only in buying the aircraft but also in technology transfer. The main goal seems to be to increase domestic manufacturing capacity by bringing the technology related to the manufacture of the Su-57 to India (Su-57 India).
The two countries also intend to further develop the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile, which has become a symbol of joint defense cooperation between India and Russia. Peskov said that discussions are underway to increase the performance of Brahmos by adding additional capabilities and new features. This will not only increase India’s military capabilities but also have the potential to be used for future defense exports (BrahMos Upgrade).
The Modi-Putin talks are not limited to the defense sector. Bilateral trade, investment, nuclear cooperation, and exploration of rare earth minerals are also likely to come up for discussion. There is an attempt to expand India-Russia relations beyond traditional arms purchases to areas such as joint manufacturing, technology sharing, and investment. The BRICS summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12-13. The Modi-Putin bilateral meeting will be held a day before this.(Maxim News)
