Hyderabad, Sept. 23: BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) credited farmers’ protests for the release of irrigation water from the Jurala project.
KTR said farmers launched the agitation after their fields began facing severe water shortages.
He thanked the farmers for continuing their protest and also appreciated BRS leaders who supported the agitation.
The comments came after officials released water into the Jurala right canal on Wednesday. About 2,687 cusecs of inflow was recorded at the project following rains in upstream areas.

KTR said the farmers had fought for their irrigation rights when their crops were under stress.
“For prodding this Kumbhakarna government with a thorny stick and making it run, my heartfelt thanks to you,” he said.
He also said the BRS would continue to fight for the basic needs of people in Telangana during the remaining two years of the Congress government’s term.
“Questioning, fighting and, if necessary, fighting with anyone for our Telangana rights is our only goal,” KTR said.
Meanwhile, Telangana Ministers and MLAs met Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The delegation sought the release of 5,000 cusecs of Krishna water for one month to protect standing crops in southern Telangana. Shivakumar assured the delegation that steps would be taken to support farmers, according to reports.
The Telangana government has also sought additional Krishna water amid protests over irrigation shortages in the Jurala command area.
Earlier, the government had cited water scarcity and drinking water requirements while responding to demands for irrigation releases. KTR has criticised that position and demanded water for standing crops.
