Hyderabad, July 20 (Maxim News): Laying foundation for a three-km-long flyover covering the Botanical Garden, Kothaguda and Kondapur junctions, the MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao today appealed to the people to bear with the temporary inconvenience being caused in view of the different developmental works taken up in the city.
The Minister said the State government’s main aim was strengthening of public transport modes in the city and extensive utilization of the same. He also said the city was currently depending more on private transport facilities. KTR said when compared to Mumbai, Hyderabadis lagged behind in utilizing public transport facilities. In Mumbai, some 70 percent people used trains and buses for transportation while 30 percent relied on private transportation.
On the contrary in Hyderabad, 70 percent people traveled in private vehicles and 30 percent use public transportation facilities. This was not only creating traffic woes but also increasing pollution levels in the city, he observed. Nearly 80,000 passengers were traveling on Metro trains every day on the 30km stretch from Nagole to Miyapur. Once all the Metro routes became operational, about 14 lakh passengers are expected to travel on the Hyderabad Metro trains every day. This apart, the MMTS phase II works were also being expedited.
The State Government has sanctioned the requisite funds for taking up the works, he added.
KTR, who was talking after laying the foundation for a three-km long flyover covering the Botanical Garden, Kothaguda and Kondapur junctions, also appealed to the people to bear with the temporary inconvenience being caused in view of the different development works.
Hyderabad Metro Rail works were on different areas, the GHMC was constructing flyovers and underpasses apart from taking up road works while the Water Board was laying pipelines in the peripheral areas. Perhaps this was the first time in Hyderabad’s history that development works of such magnitude are were being executed by different departments simultaneously. Temporary inconvenience was bound to be when such works were being executed. All these works would facilitate in addressing traffic problems permanently, the Minister said. Apart from the three-km flyover, a 470-metre underpass was also being constructed at Kothaguda junction to facilitate traffic flow from Allwyn Crossroads towards Gachibowli. All these works were being taken up at a cost of Rs. 263 crore.
Minister for Transport Mahender Reddy, , DR.B. Rammohan, H.W.Mayor, A. Gandhi, MLA, Dr.B.Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC, Corporators, Nagender Yadav, Jagadeesh Goud, Ahmed Patel, various public representatives and senior officials from various Govt., heads of the Departments have participated in the function.
