Lok Sabha Speaker Accepts Impeachment Motion Against Justice Yashwant Varma Over Corruption Charges
Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 12 (Maxim News): The case of High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Verma, who is facing corruption charges in the incident of finding bundles of notes at his house, has taken a crucial turn. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has accepted the resolution moved by the members of the Lok Sabha for his impeachment.
He said that a three-member committee is being formed to investigate the incident. The panel includes Supreme Court Judge Justice Arvind Kumar, Madras High Court judge MM Srivastava, and senior advocate BV Acharya. The impeachment motion was signed by 1q46 members of the opposition and the ruling party.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Om Birla said that the impeachment process should begin. He said that Parliament is completely against corruption. He said that the people have faith in the judicial system.
The committee formed by the Speaker will question the witnesses and examine the evidence related to the incident. After the investigation, it will submit a final report to the Speaker. The report will then be placed before the House. If the judge is found guilty in this case, a vote will be taken on his impeachment motion. The same process will be followed in the Rajya Sabha. The resolution passed by both Houses will be sent to the President for approval. (Maxim News)
