Nalgonda, July 26: A major fire broke out late at night at the premises of the famous Cheruvugattu Parvati Jadala Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple in Nalgonda district, destroying 17 shops and 15 roadside carts. No casualties were reported as the incident occurred after business hours.
According to preliminary information, the fire started in a toy shop located at the foothill of the temple. Strong winds quickly spread the flames to nearby shops, causing extensive damage.
Cheruvugattu fire destroys shops and Panchayat office
The blaze engulfed a total of 17 commercial shops and 15 carts before firefighters brought it under control.
During the fire, two LPG cylinders stored in the shops exploded, triggering panic in the surrounding area. The explosions intensified the flames and made firefighting operations more challenging.
The nearby village Panchayat office also caught fire. Important government records and official documents kept inside the office were destroyed.
Local Sarpanch estimated the property loss at around ₹2.5 crore.
Three fire engines rushed to the spot after receiving the alert. Fire and emergency services personnel worked for several hours to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Officials said a major tragedy was avoided because the fire occurred around midnight when the shops were closed and no vendors or customers were present.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
