Hyderabad, May 3: Meerpet hit and run case shocked residents after a taxi driver dragged a man on a car bonnet for nearly 2 km. The incident occurred under the limits of Meerpet police station.
According to police, the victim SK Jilani was travelling with his son Faisal on a bike. They were heading from Gayatri Nagar towards LB Nagar when a taxi rammed their vehicle from behind. As a result, both fell onto the road.
Soon after, Jilani confronted the driver over the accident. Consequently, an argument broke out between them. During the altercation, the driver allegedly assaulted Jilani and attempted to flee the spot.
Meerpet hit and run case triggers public outrage
As the driver tried to escape, Jilani stood in front of the car to stop him. However, the driver accelerated the vehicle without stopping. In fear for his life, Jilani held onto the bonnet.
Despite his cries for help, the driver continued to drive recklessly. He dragged Jilani for nearly 2 km towards Balapur crossroads. Eyewitnesses expressed shock as the car moved at speed with the victim hanging on.
Meanwhile, some passersby recorded videos of the incident. Others chased the vehicle and managed to intercept it near Manda Mallamma junction. They then caught the accused and handed him over to police.
In the incident, Jilani suffered serious injuries. His son Faisal sustained fractures in both legs and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Doctors said his condition remains under observation.
Based on the complaint, Meerpet police registered a case and took the accused into custody. Further investigation is underway.
The Meerpet hit and run case has raised serious concerns over road safety and reckless driving in the city. Authorities have urged motorists to follow traffic rules and avoid violent behavior on roads.
