Internet, July 8: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted coordinated searches across 10 states and the Union Territory of Delhi as part of its probe into an alleged conspiracy linked to ISIS and AQIS activities in India.
The NIA carried out simultaneous searches at 20 locations, including in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The operation focused on alleged terrorist propaganda and efforts to recruit people for violent extremist activities.
Officials seized several digital devices during the raids. The agency said the devices would undergo forensic examination to gather further evidence.
According to the NIA, 11 accused and one juvenile have been taken into custody in the case so far. The investigation began with a case registered by the Vijayawada Police in March and was transferred to the NIA in May.
Investigators earlier recovered alleged ISIS and AQIS propaganda material from the residence of the main accused, Rehmatullah Sharif Mohammed. The latest searches followed technical analysis of digital evidence collected during the earlier phase of the investigation.
The agency alleged that the accused attempted to radicalise youth by promoting extremist ideology and maintained online contact with foreign handlers.
The NIA said the investigation is continuing to identify others allegedly involved in the conspiracy to destabilise the country and establish an Islamic caliphate.
