Opposition Parties Announced Boycott Of Inauguration Of New Parliament Building

Delhi/Hyderabad, May 24 (Maxim News):  The opposition parties have announced that they are boycotting the inauguration ceremony of the New Parliament Building to be held on May 28.

19 Opposition parties issued a joint statement today, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the Parliament building instead of the president as the constitutional head in an insult to democracy and the new building has no value when there is no place for democracy in the soul of the Parliament.

“The opening of the new parliament building is a matter of great importance.  Even though the government is threatening democracy and acting in an autocratic  manner without any concern for the opposition in the construction of the Parliament building.  We wanted to put aside all those differences and participate in the program.  However, we consider it a direct attack on democracy for the Prime Minister to inaugurate the Parliament building, completely ignoring the president’s Draupadi Murmu.  Apart from being the constitutional head, the President has key responsibilities in the running of the Parliament including summoning, proroguing and addressing both Houses.

Her (President’s) consent is indispensable for the implementation of a law made by Parliament.  In short, parliament cannot function without the President.  However, the Prime Minister decided to inaugurate the parliament building without her.  Undoubtedly, this is an insult to the highest office of the President.   At a time when the country is proud of electing the first woman adivasi as the President, it is to water down that spirit, the opposition said in the joint statement.

“Undemocratic actions are not new to the Prime Minister.  Opposition leaders in Parliament were disqualified when they raised the issues of the people of India.  suspended.  Their words were muted.  Many controversial laws, including the three farmers bills, were passed in Parliament without any debate.  Parliamentary committees have been cornered.

During the corona epidemic for a year and half, the construction was carried out at a huge cost without any consultation with the people of India or the MPs.  We do not see any value in the new building when the spirit of democracy is removed from the Parliament.  “We are bringing these matters to the public’s attention by taking a collective decision to boycott the inauguration of the parliament building against the autocratic Prime Minister and his government, “the opposition said in a joint statement.

Among the 19 parties that have announced that they will boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building are Congress, DMK, AAP, Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party, CPI, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Kerala Congress (Mani), Chiruthaigal Katchi, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Trinamool Congress, Janata Dal (United), NCP, CPM, RJD, Indian Union Muslim League, National Conference, Revolutionary Socialist Party and MDMK.  (Maxim News)
