Owaisi’s challenge to Rahul Gandhi is ridiculous: Sameer

Hyderabad, September 25: The Congress party has dismissed AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s challenge to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to contest from Hyderabad in the next Lok Sabha elections as “ridiculous.”

“The campaign launched by the Congress party in the Old City of Hyderabad has started sending shockwaves among MIM leaders and the fear of a possible backlash in the coming election was quite visible in the speech of Asaduddin Owaisi. When Congress started appealing to the people of Hyderabad to question MIM leaders on their performance, Owaisi got terrified and now using old tactics of provocating the people on religious lines,” Hyderabad DCC President Sameer Waliullah said in a media statement on Monday.

Sameer Waliullah said that Owaisi has tried to blame the Congress party for the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. “Everyone knows who demolished the mosque and how the MIM is strengthening the same communal elements across the country. Why did Asaduddin Owaisi forget about the Babri Masjid when he joined the Congress-led UPA after the 2004 elections? Why did he always wrestle to get pictures with Rahul Gandhi when the Congress party was in power till 2014? Everyone knows how Owaisi incites communal feelings to evade questioning on development,” he alleged.

He also slammed Owaisi for blaming the Congress party for the demolition of Secretariat mosques. “MIM chief must have gone insane as he is levelling baseless allegations. Two mosques in the Secretariat were demolished by the BRS government in July 2020. While the Congress leaders tried to register an FIR and also approached the court, it was Asaduddin Owaisi who defended the demolition of mosques. He even took a delegation of some religious leaders to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao supporting his decision. MIM not only remained silent, but misguided the entire community on the demolition and shifting of Secretariat mosques to another place. MIM leaders attended the foundation stone laying ceremony and also the inauguration of Secretariat mosques which have been relocated. Asaduddin Owaisi was also silent over the demolition of Ek Khana Masjid in Amberpet and five other religious places across Telangana. Now in view of Assembly elections, he is trying to incite communal feelings targeting the Congress party,” he said.

Sameer Waliullah said that by challenging Rahul Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi has endorsed the accusation that MIM, BJP, and BRS are allies and share a common agenda of attacking the Congress party. He said that the Congress party has entered the Old City of Hyderabad with a clear agenda for development. He said that the Congress would ensure that the MIM and other parties speak on the problems being faced by the people in the Old City and do not distract by making unnecessary and ridiculous challenges. (Maxim News)
