Hyderabad, April 17 (Maxim News): Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was laughed at as a witness in Parliament. BJP MP Tejaswi Surya criticized Revanth’s proposed hybrid model for delimitation of constituencies in Parliament. He described linking delimitation with the state GSDP as the most stupid proposal in the world. He said that even the people of Telangana are laughing at Revanth’s arguments. Stating that the GSDP of states is not always stable and changes every year, the BJP MP said that linking the GSDP to the delimitation of constituencies would be foolish. ‘Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has proposed an interesting hybrid model for delimitation. Revanth suggests linking a state’s population to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GSDP) when redistricting constituencies.Telangana Information.
I don’t know who is giving Revanth such advice, but the people of Telangana are laughing at these arguments. In a word, if this proposal is very useful for laughter, it is not useful at all in practice. I will try to explain this. Revanth is talking about the vote of a common man in Telangana being more valuable than a voter in Bihar. If this is what Revanth means, then Revanth is violating the basic principle of the Constitution, ‘Every citizen has a vote… Every vote has equal value’. Revanth’s case is that the rich have more votes and the poor have no value. If we take Revanth’s proposal forward, Mukesh Ambani will get one lakh votes. Common people like us will have only one vote left. Will such illogical proposals be taken? This proposal brought by Revanth, linking delimitation with the state’s GSDP, is the most stupid proposal in the world. It is unconstitutional. This is undermining the constitutional principle of ‘every citizen has a vote’, the BJP MP fumed.
The BJP MP further said, “Speaker Sir, there is another aspect here. Whether it is the GDP of a country or the GSDP of a state, nothing is stable for ten or fifteen years. GDP can increase or decrease every six months. If the GDP is high one year, it can decrease the next year. Now, if we link the delimitation with the GSDP as Revanth said, we will have to change the number of seats frequently. Let’s say that there was abundant rain in Telangana this year. Then if the GSDP is good, should we give additional seats to Telangana? There was no rain in Tamil Nadu next year. So, should we cut two seats for Tamil Nadu? The Congress is bringing such unscientific proposals and misleading the people. Revanth’s proposal to link the GSDP to the delimitation is very ridiculous.” (Maxim News)
