Pension for Retired Journalists: Senior Journalists Urge Telangana Govt to Fulfil Promise

The association said the long-pending assurance should now be fulfilled without any further delay.

On Sunday, a delegation from the Telangana State Senior Journalists Association met Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and handed over a formal petition.

The delegation included Kesava Rao, Lakshman Rao, N. Srinivasa Reddy, Bandaru Srinivasa Rao, C. Keshavulu, Fazil, and Venugopal.

The association members reminded that before the last Assembly elections, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, then TPCC president, had personally received their memorandum and expressed support for the demand.

They said this is not a new appeal but a matter of long-overdue recognition for journalists who dedicated their lives to public service through the media.

The leaders also noted that 19 states across India have already implemented pension schemes for retired journalists. They pointed out that several Congress-ruled states, including Karnataka, are successfully running similar programs to ensure social security for senior journalists.

They urged the Telangana government to take similar action and show that it values the role of the media in strengthening democracy.

Responding to their appeal, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka assured the delegation that the government is taking the issue seriously. He said a committee will soon be formed to study the proposal and that it would be placed before the state cabinet for approval.
