Petrol Diesel Price Hike | Hyderabad, April 23 (Maxim News): The Centre has denied reports claiming petrol and diesel prices may rise sharply after upcoming elections. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said no such proposal is under consideration and termed the circulating claims misleading.
The clarification came after several media and social media reports suggested fuel prices could increase by up to ₹28 per litre. However, the ministry said such reports were false and created unnecessary fear among the public.
Officials stated that the government has not discussed any proposal to raise petrol or diesel prices. They added that misleading stories were being spread to create confusion among citizens.
Petrol Diesel Price Hike | Fuel Price Rumours Rejected by Centre
The ministry further said India remains among the few countries where petrol and diesel retail prices have stayed stable over the past four years despite global market volatility. It noted that the government and public sector oil companies have taken multiple steps to reduce the burden on consumers.
Meanwhile, recent geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz had triggered speculation about possible fuel supply disruptions. Because of this, rumours of a major price hike gained traction online. However, the Centre has now dismissed those claims.
Officials also stressed that the government continues to monitor global crude oil movements and supply conditions. At the same time, it aims to protect consumers from sudden price shocks.
The clarification is expected to ease concerns among motorists, transport operators and households already dealing with rising living costs. Fuel prices directly impact transport fares, food logistics and daily expenses across the country.
Therefore, the ministry urged people to rely only on official announcements and avoid sharing unverified reports related to petrol and diesel prices.
