Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his official visit to Australia on Wednesday at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, with both leaders expected to strengthen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the Annual Leaders’ Summit.
Prime Minister Modi will be in Melbourne from July 8 to 10, where he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Albanese and call on Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn.
Focus on Trade, Defence and Strategic Partnership
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the India-Australia CEOs Forum, where he will interact with leading business leaders from both countries to boost trade, investment and economic cooperation.
He is also scheduled to address a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in Melbourne.
Ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Albanese described India as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and an important strategic and economic partner for Australia.
“I am honoured to welcome my friend Prime Minister Modi to Australia for our Annual Leaders’ Summit,” Albanese said.
He noted that the India-Australia partnership plays a vital role in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and said cooperation in trade, defence, security and technology continues to benefit both nations.
Growing Bilateral Ties
Members of the Indian community in Melbourne performed a Vedic Havan on Tuesday, praying for the success of Prime Minister Modi’s visit.
India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Nagesh Singh, said the Prime Minister’s third visit to Australia in the past decade reflects the remarkable growth in bilateral relations.
He noted that the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2020, has expanded across key sectors, including defence and security, trade and investment, clean energy, education, emerging technologies, mobility and people-to-people ties.
According to the envoy, the evolving global landscape has further strengthened cooperation between the two countries, with India and Australia sharing common strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
