PM Modi To Visit West Bengal On March 14

  • PM West Bengal Visit to launch National Highway projects and economic corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake the PM West Bengal Visit on March 14, 2026, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Kolkata worth around ₹18,680 crore. The visit will begin at around 2 PM. The projects focus on improving road infrastructure, port capacity, railway connectivity and regional transport systems.

A major part of the PM West Bengal Visit will focus on road infrastructure. The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several National Highway projects with a combined length of more than 420 kilometres. These projects are valued at around ₹16,990 crore. The projects being inaugurated include sections of NH 19 in West Bengal and Jharkhand and NH 114 in West Bengal. These initiatives aim to enhance road safety, reduce travel time and ease congestion and pollution. They are also expected to improve regional connectivity and promote tourism and economic growth in the region.

During the PM West Bengal Visit, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for several new National Highway projects. These include five packages of the 231 kilometre long four lane Kharagpur Moregram economic corridor section of NH 116A.

The corridor forms part of the economic corridor between Kharagpur and Siliguri. It will pass through Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Hooghly, Purba Bardhaman, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts. Direct Kharagpur Moregram connectivity will reduce travel distance by around 120 kilometres and save nearly seven to eight hours of travel time. The corridor will integrate with NH 16, NH 19, NH 14 and NH 12, strengthening multi corridor connectivity.

Infrastructure projects announced during PM West Bengal Visit

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of a 5.6 kilometre four lane Dubrajpur Bypass on NH 14. The bypass will help decongest the densely built areas of Dubrajpur town and reduce travel time by nearly one hour. In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for additional four lane major bridges over the Kangshabati and Shilabati rivers on NH 14.

Meanwhile, the PM West Bengal Visit will also include shipping and port related projects. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the mechanization project of Berth Number 2 at Haldia Dock Complex. The project aims to enable faster and environment friendly cargo handling.

It will also increase cargo handling capacity, improve safety by reducing human exposure to hazardous operations and create employment opportunities. The rejuvenation project at Khidderpore Docks Dock 1 West will also be inaugurated.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for several port infrastructure projects. These include mechanization of Berth Number 5 at Haldia Dock Complex of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port. Other works include renovation of the Bascule Bridge at Kolkata Dock System and yard development with drainage systems at Kidderpore Dock I East and Dock II East. The projects also include bank protection works along the Kolkata riverfront from the Howrah Bridge pylon to Nimtala Ghat. In addition, a terminal building for a river cruise terminal and river tourism facility near the Indenture Memorial complex at Kolkata Dock System will be constructed.

Rail connectivity and station redevelopment projects

The railway sector will also receive attention during the PM West Bengal Visit. The Prime Minister will flag off the Purulia Anand Vihar Terminal Delhi Express. This train will strengthen rail connectivity between West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and the National Capital Region.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate six redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Station Scheme. These stations include Kamakhyaguri, Anara, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum and Siuri. In addition, two railway projects will be dedicated to the nation. These include the 16 kilometre long third rail line between Belda and Dantan and the Automatic Block Signalling system between Kalaikunda and Kanimohuli.

These projects aim to improve train safety and punctuality. They will also reduce congestion and improve ease of travel for passengers. Overall, the initiatives reflect the government’s continued effort to strengthen infrastructure, enhance connectivity and support economic growth in West Bengal and eastern India.
