Hyderabad, July 7: Political analysts have cautioned that ignoring the SIR process could have serious electoral consequences. They said political parties must actively monitor the voter list revision exercise to avoid losing crucial votes.
The Election Commission is conducting the SIR process to update and clean the electoral rolls. Analysts said the role of Booth Level Officers and Booth Level Agents is critical to ensure eligible voters remain on the rolls.
They, however, claimed that major political parties, including the BRS, Congress, and BJP, have not given adequate importance to the exercise. According to them, many parties are relying mainly on BLOs instead of deploying sufficient BLAs to assist voters.
Political observers argued that overlooking the process could prove costly. They referred to statements made by DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, who had earlier said that neglecting a similar voter revision exercise had politically hurt his party.
Analysts also pointed to past elections where candidates lost by narrow margins despite favourable pre election surveys. They said even a small change in the number of valid votes can influence the final result in closely contested constituencies.
They further cited examples from Bihar, claiming that large scale voter list revisions took place in some constituencies before elections, while victory margins remained very small in certain seats.
Political experts said parties should closely monitor the ongoing **SIR process** and ensure eligible voters complete the required formalities to avoid exclusion from the electoral rolls.
