Hyderabad, August 17: Former minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar accused the Congress government of weakening welfare schemes meant for poor families.
He specifically criticised the government over Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes.
Puvvada said the schemes provide financial support to poor families during their daughters’ marriages.
He alleged that the government’s approach showed indifference towards welfare programmes.
Puvvada Questions Congress Over Welfare Schemes
Puvvada said the previous BRS government introduced the schemes under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
He said the programmes promoted the idea that a girl child should not become a financial burden.
Meanwhile, Puvvada questioned why the government had not filed a counter affidavit before the High Court.
He said the court had reportedly provided four deadlines to the government in the matter.
Puvvada alleged that the government’s handling of the case raised doubts about its commitment to poor families.
He demanded that the government explain its position on the interests of beneficiaries.
Puvvada also warned that any attempt to weaken or abolish the schemes would face opposition from beneficiaries and their families.
