According to a government circular, Muslim employees, teachers, contract staff, outsourcing staff, boards, corporation, and public sector employees working in all government offices can leave their offices and schools at 4 pm. This relaxation will remain in force from February 19 to March 20. The Telangana government issued these orders on the occasion of the festival of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Muslims observe rigorous fasting during Ramadan. They remain immersed in prayer day and night. Muslims generally pray five times a day. In addition, they offer special prayers during Ramadan. The thirty day fast is divided into three parts. Muslims believe that if one fasts during the first 10 days, Allah will shower mercy on them. If one fasts from 11 to 20 days, one will be forgiven for sins. If one fasts from the 21st day onwards, one will be freed from hell.

There is also a special period from the 21st day to the last day of Ramadan. This period is called Itikaf. It is a kind of penance. Those who wish to observe Itikaf tie a curtain to one side in the mosque and meditate on God, pray, and recite the Quran. They do not leave the mosque unless there is a strong reason. Later, after the 30 day fast, Muslims celebrate the festival of Ramadan.

Along with fasting, Muslims worship God and give charity. During fasting, they avoid lying and injustice. Ramadan, therefore, promotes sacrifice, compassion, empathy, and love. In this context, the Telangana government’s decision aims to support Muslim employees during the holy month.
