Revanth Reddy Warns Officials Over Hyderabad Rain Traffic Chaos

Hyderabad, June 15: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy warned officials of strict action if traffic disruptions continue during heavy rains in Hyderabad. He directed police and civic staff to remain on the roads and ensure smooth movement during the monsoon season.

Reviewing monsoon preparedness on Sunday, the Chief Minister expressed displeasure over the severe traffic congestion reported during the June 9 rains. He said residents faced major inconvenience in several parts of Hyderabad, including Cyberabad.

He stated that municipal, police and traffic officials failed to act despite advance warnings from the Meteorological Department. He also recalled issuing clear instructions during a rain preparedness meeting held on June 1.

The Chief Minister said poor coordination between municipal and police departments worsened the situation. He directed Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and DGP CV Anand to examine the causes and take action against responsible officials.

Revanth Reddy made it clear that such lapses would not be tolerated. He warned that strict action would follow if traffic chaos recurred during future rainfall.

He instructed officials to act proactively based on weather forecasts. Personnel from Municipal Administration, HYDRAA, Traffic Police, Water Board and civil police departments must remain on the ground during heavy rains, he said.

The Chief Minister stressed that everyone, from constables to the Police Commissioner, should be deployed on roads when required. He added that he would personally visit affected areas if necessary.

Revanth Reddy also directed the DGP to fill vacancies in the traffic department immediately. He asked officials to prepare action plans using data on waterlogging points, accident prone locations and traffic congestion hotspots.

The Chief Minister expressed concern over power disruptions caused by fallen trees. He instructed the Electricity Department to restore supply quickly and deploy mobile transformers wherever needed. He also ordered all electricity personnel to remain alert during the monsoon.

In addition, he directed irrigation officials to strictly follow operational manuals at all projects. Engineers must remain stationed at project sites during the rainy season, he said. He also instructed the Finance Department to release funds required for repairs and maintenance of project gates.

Senior officials from irrigation, municipal administration, health, police, agriculture and meteorological departments attended the review meeting.
