Hyderabad Rains: Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar Receive Inflows

Hyderabad, 15 June: Water inflows have begun into Hyderabad’s twin reservoirs, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar, following rainfall in their upper catchment areas, prompting the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to intensify monitoring and preparedness measures.

Himayatsagar received an inflow of 800 cusecs on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, inflows also started reaching Osmansagar, marking an important development in the city’s monsoon water management efforts.

HMWSSB officials said they are monitoring water levels and inflows round the clock. They added that authorities will take appropriate decisions based on changing conditions. Public safety remains the top priority, officials said.

Meanwhile, HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy visited Himayatsagar on Sunday to review flood preparedness. He directed officials to remain alert and maintain close coordination with the Revenue, Police and Municipal departments.

The Water Board also appealed to residents living downstream to remain vigilant during the monsoon season. Officials stated that any decision regarding gate operations or water releases will be announced through official channels.

The inflows come as monsoon activity strengthens across Telangana, increasing water availability in key reservoirs that support Hyderabad’s drinking water needs.
